In the ship building or ship repair industry, slipways are used to haul the ship out of the water to make the repairs or, at the opposite, to return it to the water after overhaul or launch it when it’s a new vessel. Usually slipways are considered for small to middle size ships and they are in this case a cost effective alternative to drydocks which are used for larger ships.
