The boom hinge joint of the Ship-to-Shore cranes where the boom and girder rails are separated to allow the crane to boom up, is subject to very high duty cycles as the trolley moves containers from ship to shore and vice versa. Shocks and vibrations are transferred into the whole trolley rail system and are accelerating the wear and tear of the short rail in particular, which is the rail section precisely localized at the hinge.
