Lamu, Kenya: Gantrex has signed a USD 700K contract with the Chinese contractor China Harbour Engineering Co. Ltd (CHEC) for the supply of rails, fixing devices and continuous support for 1200m of berths of the Lamu Port Project. Those deep-sea berths are the first three of a project known as the LAPSSET Corridor Program, which is Eastern Africa’s largest infrastructure project bringing together Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan. This mega project consists of several key infrastructures: a 32 berths port in Lamu, a railway, a highway connecting Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia, a crude oil pipeline, international airports and resort cities. The first berth is expected to be completed by 2018 while the remaining two are to be completed by 2020.
